Game Summaries

 

7/28/11 Cressona vs. Reedsville (Double-Header)

Playing the final two games of the regular season in the rain and a water soaked field against Reedsville Village, the first game was an offensive battle with Reedsville leading by one run going into the top of the last inning.  Dan Fridirici and John Hikes hit back to back home runs and going into the bottom of the inning being up by two runs, Charlie Killian did a great job of pitching and managed to get the next 3 out of 4 batters out.  Game 1-Final score Cressona  Reedsville 

 

The second game, Charlie Killian again pitched a great game, holding Reedsville to just 3 runs.  And Brian Kelly hit a three run home run over the right field fence to end the game with 15 runs.  Game 2-Final score Cressona  Reedsville 

 

Reedsville had the same record as Cressona going into the two games, 13-7, and they have a fine team coached by Rodney Blankenhorn and John Dutton.  Good luck to Reedsville in the Playoffs. - Submitted by R. Ott and G. Scharadin 

 

7/19/11 Cressona vs. New Ringgold

Cressona starts with Josh Cresswell hitting for a double.  John Hikes hits a double and scores Cresswell.  Then with 2 outs, Dave Horst gets a hit to score Hikes.  In the second inning, Jim Gerber starts off with a homerun, with two men on base Aron Schrimpf hits his first homerun of the season,  with Cressona leading 14-8 in the sixth inning.  New Ringgold made a gallant effort in the bottom of the seventh inning scoring 5 runs with 2 outs.  S. Miller III hits a deep ball between left field and center where Aron Schrimpf made a sensational diving catch to save the game.  Playing with just 8 men, it was a hard fought game for each man had to play extra hard.  Well done!  Final score Cressona 14 New Ringgold 13

7/17/11 Cressona vs. Lewistown Valley

Another exciting game Cressona started with 4 runs in the first inning and held Lewistown Valley to no runs.  As the game went on, Lewistown Valley slowly got back in the game.  With a few Cressona errors Lewistown Valley gained the lead, but Cressona never gave up as they were down 14-8 in the bottom of the sixth inning they came back with 5 runs going into the seventh inning being down by one run, they held Lewistown Valley to no runs in the bottom of the 7th.  Cressona could only manage one run, but that tied the game and sent it into extra innings.  In the eighth inning Lewistown Valley's bats came alive and they scored 7 runs, Cressona in the bottom of the only produced one run.  Final score Lewistown Valley 21 Cressona 15.  Great effort by the Cougars.

7/10/11 Rock vs. Cressona

Great effort by the Cressona Cougars on a hard fought game Sunday evening versus the undefeated Rock team (15-0).  The Cougars came up short and Rock continued its undefeated season to date with a 3-1 win.

Rock scored one run in the second inning.  In the top of the third, the Cougars got on the board with a ground rule double by Justin Clauser in which Jim Gerber scored.  On the same play, Charlie Killian advanced to third base, but the Cougars could not bring him in and left Killian and Clauser in scoring position.  This proved to be a crucial turnaround as Rock scored the final two runs in the bottom of the frame.  From then on it was all defense with neither team scoring again.  Congratulations to a fine Rock team. - Submitted by R.
